RED CROSS SOCIETY

EXAMINATION RESULTS Amended results of examinations of the home nursing class conducted by Mrs. W. F. Southam were reported to the committee of'the New Plymouth branch of the Red Cross Society last night. They showed that of 49 candidates 44 passed, not 35 as previously reported. Every member of a class at Kent Road conducted by Mrs. M. McRae passed the examination and ail but one received honours. Nine members attended the lectures. Examinations of the first-aid class for women had been concluded. but all the results were not to hand. Of 44 candidates examined in praclical work all passed. only seven gnining less than 80 per cent. of mnrks. Twenty-seven received more than 90 per cent. and seven gained the maximum marks. the examining doctor commenting that the bandaging was perfectly done. A men's detachment had been started and 14 members were receiving instruction in first-aid. Next year it was hoped to have 16 members. the full number necessary for a detachment. Miss G. Jemison, secretary, reported that members of another organisation liad written thanking Mrs. Southam for her kindness to them, while they were doing emergency duty and expressing the hope that should the occasion arise again they would again be able to scrve under her. The thanks of the society were accorded the instructtonal sisters and those who had helped with the first-aid demonstrations at the classes. To Raise Funds. It was reported that articles presented to the society for the purpose of raising funds included a radio set, an afternoon tea set. a dressed doll and a baby's knitted set. On the motion of Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths it W3S decided to leconstitute the wo-

men's nui-sing detachment and to transfer to it the bank balance from the 1934 class. The detachment will meet once a n?onth for refresher classes. Mesdames L. W. Veale and S. G. Hoben, and Miss I Jemison were appointed to convene a meeting. A vote of thanks was accorded those who helped with the recent mart for the society's funds. Certificates will be presented at a social gathering 1o be held next month, it was decided. A donation of £ 5 from A.H.K. was acknowledged, it being specified that it should be used to help a returned soldier. It was decided to make a quota grant of £10 to headquarters. It was decided to thank Mr. Read, Courtenay. Street, for offering to make and donate kitchen bonrds to the society for the purpose of raising funds.
