MURDER CHARGE

TAUMARUNUI ARREST REMAND TO OCTOBER 1 MAN SHOT THROUGH EYE
Taumarunui, Sept. za. A remand until October 1 was granted when Charles Harold Longley, aged 39 years, a labourer, was charged to-day with the murder at Mananui on Sunday afternoon of Jeremiah O'Sullivan, who died as the result of being shot through the right eye. Longley, who is a small man, appeared before Messrs. W. Thomas and W. A. N. Campbell, justices of the peace, wearing a blue suit and glasses. He appeared quite unconcerned and stood erect when the charge was read. Represented by Counscl. Sergeant J. Abel prosecuted and asked for the remand. Mr. Arnold appeared for Longley, who was arrested shortly after the death of O'Sullivan on Sunday and was taken to the Taumarunui lockup. The inquest into O'Sullivan's death was opened to-day before Mr. W. Thomas, district coroner. It was adjourned sine die after evidence of identification was given by Maurice Joseph O'Sullivan, a son.
