A charge of murder was laid against a Taumarunui resident following a shooting fatality on Sunday. The prisoner was remanded to October 1. Educational Training. Rapid expansion in the scheme for educational training of New Zealand's Air Force personnel, including ground personnel, were reviewed last night by the Minister of Defence. Children From Britain. Latest despatches received by the Government indicated no variation in the intention of British authorities to send a number of children to New Zealand, said the Hon. W. E. Parry. Easier Petrol Ration. An assertion that the petrol rationing position in New Zealand could be made easier with no serious effect to the war effort was made by the president of the New Zealand Motor Trade Federatiom Red Cross Criticism. The Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council desires a Government commission of inquiry into the raising of funds for patriotic purposes, with particular reference to the New Zealand Red Cross Society. Kecent Sterling Falls. Recent falls in sterling returns of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand were explained by the Minister of Finance as being due to the repayment of loans before the due date. thus eflecting a big saving to the State in interest.
