MEETING AT MANAIA
A successful season's interhouse miniature rifle shooting competition conducted by the Manaia Legion of Frontiersmen troop was reviewed by Mr. V. F. Winter at a social evening in the troop's rooms when prizes won during the season were presented. Thirteen teams contested the competition. In all 120 individual men took part and in many cases the individual and teams' scores were very consistent, said Mr. Winter. There had been outstanding improveinent in the younger shots, continued Mr. Winter. Congratulations to the New Plymouth Old Boys' team on winning the teams' competition, to E. Ingram, the Uest individual shot, and to E. Lambert, the best Legion of Frontiersmen individual shot, were expressed. Mr. Winter in conclusion thanked all who had assisted in the conduct of the competition. The trophies were then presented by Mr. Winter as follows: Shell case dinner gong for teams' match, New Plymouth High School Old Boys' team; Tolley Cup for best individual aggregate score, E. Ingram; Winter Cup for best Legion of Frontiersmen member individual' aggregate score, E. G. Lambert. Earlier in the evening an individual shoot was held which resulted: W. Spooner 1, N. MacDiarmid 2, L. Hughes 3. Trophies were presented to them. Mr. B. H. Pease, captain of the Old Boys' team, paid tribute to the excellent organisation and work done by the Legion troop members responsible for conducting the tournament. He congratulated all teams on the sporting manner in which the competition had been contested and the other winners of trophies. • Messrs. C. Ingram, A. Riley, L. Carter, W. Spooner. L. Hughes, F. Walker, H. Houghton, W. Budd and E. Ingram on behalf of their respective teams also spoke. The personnel of the successful New Plymouth Old Boys' team was B. H. Pease (captain), H. Snowdon. A. Snowdon, A. Stevenson, N. MacDiarmid and E. Buist. The placings of the teams and totals
were: — New Plymouth Old Boys 2091, Ingram s 2057,' Sutherland Road 1898, Legion 1875, Bowling Club 1844. Colts 1802, Oddfellows 1748, Citizens 1743, Tennis Club 1724, Fire Brigade 1456, Hibernians 1414, Waiokura (three shoots only) 606, Riverdale (two shoots only) 549. The possible was 2o40, The positions of the individual aggregates were: E. Ingram 380, N. MacDiarmid 374, E. G. Lambert 366, H. C- Ingram 362, H. Houghton 359, E. Buist 356, P. Stanley 352, W. Pease and E. Smith equal 351, G~ Ingram 349, A. Snowdon 347, L Hughes 336. J. Mowat and G. Clark equal 333, R. Ingram 329. E. Griffin 327, A. Stevenson 324. Wrignt 321, L. Price 319, V. Adlam 316, L. Carter 315. The possible was 390. ■ Cards, table tennis and billiards were played later in the evening.
