WAITARA SCOUTING
COMMISSIONER'S VISIT Mr. J. R. H. Cooksey, travelling commissionfcr of the Boy Scout Association, visited Waitara last' week in his official capacity. He was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Bannister, Scoutmaster and Cubmistress respectively. The Atiawa Cub pack was inspccted on Thursday. ancl on Friday night and Saturday afternoon the commi.ssioner inspeeted the Scout packs. On Saturday night at the den an address was delivered by Mr. Cooksey to a good audience of parents and townspeople. Ile spoke on the movement from the time of Mafeking, . pointing out the wonderful growth that (he Scout movement had made throughout the Empire. He complimented Waitara on its packs and on the spacious den which was made available. A Scout and Cub church service was held on Sunday, there being a good attendance. On Sunday afternoon the commissioner was taken out to Pinchgut pa. on the banks of the Waitara Rivor adjoining the Manukorihi golf links. An endeavour is to be made lo obtain the u:,e of the site to establish an annual camp. Euclue Party. There was a good attcndancc at thc iveeklv euchre party held by members of the Waitara Cycle. Athletic and Axemen's Club. 12 tables being engaged. Prizes were won by Mrs. N. Barras, Mrs. Jane, Mr FoOte and Mr. A. Sutton. A competition was won by Mrs. t). Laing. Mr. R. Yardley supervised the play, and supper was served by women members.
