FORM AT MARTON
REVIEW OF THE RUNNING TWO-YEAR-OLDS' DISPLAY Fourteen two-year-olds paraded for ] the Juvenile race at Marton on Saturday, and Fleche d'Or and Prince Plato set a sound pace to the straight, with Foreign Coin and Nisus next ahead of Bayadeer and Par Avion. The Martontrained Foreign Coin finished too strongly for the others, scoring by a iength from Par Avion. who beat Prince Plato by half a length. Fleche d'Or was fourth. The winner had finished second to Bayadeer in the "parade" at the Wanganui meeting at Awapuni, but did not start in the Debutant Stakes. Colerica Surprises. Colerica sprang a surprist in the Maiden Race to rel irn a win dividend just under a quarter of a century. Always in a good position behind the early leaders Sweet Anne, Vacation and King's Mark, Colerica came tbrough at the straight entrance to catch Sweet Anne a few strides from the post and win by a head. Sweet Anne hung on well and King's Mark was a fair third. Star Zone came from nine places back on the turn to get fourth. Vacation sh'owed a good turn of speed. Foxiana All the Way.
Foxiana led all the way in the Hack Hurdles to score convincingly and give his rider. P. Jarvis, a welcome change of luck after several falls. The winner carries the colours of Mr. L. H. Collinson, president of the Manawatu Racing Club. He jumped splendidly and held off several would-be challengers. Golden Memory and High Peer accompanied him into the straight, with Parekura, who made a bad jump two fences from home, also running a good race. Brazil made a bad jump five furlongs from home, and Raeburn refused to go away from the barrier. Best Dividend of Day. All Bunsby, who had returned agood price when he finished second to Lucullus Boy at the Rangitikei Hunt Club meeting in July, went one better when he won the Tutaenui Hack Handicap to return the best dividend of the day. He followed the leaders, Taiho and Eupatrid, to the half-mile, where Scandal lost his position and Lucullus Boy was moving up. All Bunsby came through on the inside when Taiho and Eupatrid swung out, and then Lucullus Boy challenged but failed by a long head, with Waimutu and Scandal almost in lme with them. All Bunsby stuck on well, ■but Lucullus Boy covered extra ground. Scandal was a trifle unlucky in getting snowed in. Saxon Tor Decisively. Saxon Tor scored a dccisive win in the open rprint, in which he hit the front after a furlong and came away in the straight. Footloose went with him in the early stages and kept him on the course, ,dropping out at the straight entrance, where Amigo came from third place. in a well-sustained challenge. There was a great ftnish for third place, Nigger Boy, who had covered a good deal of extra ground, getting home from Screen Star, who had. been always prominent. The Buzzer, was. almost in line with them and then came Colossal Chief and Taurangi.
Gaelic Song in Dcspcrate Finish. The Marton Handicap was rem \rkable for the desperate battle Gaelic Song and Noble Fox staged over the last two furlongs. Gaelic Song and Winsome Lu were the early leaders from Noble Fox and Dorado. Passing the hqlf-mile Siegmund moved up quickly, and thc order into the straight was Gaelic Song from Noble Fox, Winsome Lu, Dorado and Colonel .Bogey. In the run down the straight Gaelic Song was challenged by Noble Fox, and they raced to the post well clear of the others, and Gaelic Song hung on gamely to win by a head. Winsome Lu was two lengths away, followed by Homily, Colonel Bogey, Siegmund, Meamea and Cherry Bay. Auto Sweep Too Solid. Hasten, the favourite, made a gallant effort to win the Spring Hack Handicap, but Auto Sweep, after taking charge at the half-mile, set too solid a pace, and it was a great effort on the part of Hasten to get as close as he did. All Quiet and Houmai set the early pace ahead of Sceptre, and there was not much change for five furlongs. Then things began to hapi en, and Auto Sweep led into the straight followed by Hasten and Gold Bridge. and the three figured in an exciting finish, Auto Sweep getting the verdict by n head from Hasten, with Gold Bridge only a neck further away. Next was Colibri. who finished very fast. Dynasty, Sceptre, Great Fair and Boniden. Lucullus Boy Finishes Well. Zest and Wings of Song began best in the concluding event, and they soon opened up a break on Army Girl ahead of Royal Consort. Kentucky, Lucullus Boy and Dark Eagle. Kentucky moved up fast as they ran tp the straight, and he seemed a winner at the distance. Then Lucullus Boy issued his challenge and finished brilliantly to win by a length. Kentucky beat Zest by a sirnilar margin, and Dark Eagle was a good fourth. Next were Royal Consort, Pas de Cheval and Wings of Song.
