WOMEN'S DIVISION

Manaia: Mrs. Paterson presided at the monthly meeting. In support of the New Zealand Women's Division bomber fund it has been decided to hold a special shop day and baby show. Mrs. Merrie is to be in charge of the baby show, in which there will be four classes. A wandering shilling was won by Mrs. Wilcox. Hostesses were Mesdames Taylor and Giraud. An afternoon was spent at Mrs. Merrie's residence to prepare for the shop day. The sitting room was decorated with Iceland poppies. Midhirst: Mrs. Smith, vice-president, presided in the absence of Mrs. Lepper. Mrs. Watson was elected a new member. A donation was made to the leper fund. Gifts of 163 garments and one pair of shoes have been made to the Stratford branch of the Lady Galway guild during the last two months. Members read a play. Competition results were: Collection of most varieties of flowers, Mrs. Davis (15) 1, Mrs. Tempero (12) 2; travelling shilling, Mrs. Thompson. Hostesses were Mesdames Thompson and Baskin. Omata: Mrs. W. Donald presided at the September meeting. It was decided to donate all the funds in harid towards the bomber fund. Auroa: A card evening was held at the home of Mrs. C. Muggeridge, Oeo Road, in aid of the leper Christmas fund. Euchre winners were Miss E. Richardson and Mr. P. C. Hall. Competitions were won by Mrs. J. Duff, Mrs. E. Calder and Mr. Mowatt. Mr. Mowatt gave a selection of Scottish airs. Mrs. Muggeridge, assisted by Miss K. Muggeridge, served a dainty supper. Mrs. W. H. Richardson thanked Mrs. Muggeridge for the use of her home. Fraser Road: Mrs. Jennings presided over the monthly meeting. Donations were made to the Spitfire fund and the lepers of Makogai. Knitting was handed in for soldiers' comforts. Competitions resulted: Polyanthus (3), Miss E. Sanderson 1, Mrs. Jennings 2, Miss D. Sanderson 3; bowl of flowers, Miss E. Sanderson 1, Mrs. Jennings 2, Miss D. Sanderson 3. Mesdames S. Death and H. Sanderson were hostesses. Whenuakura: Mi's. W. E. Barnes presided at the September meeting. Arrangements were made for a barn dance in aid of the W.D.F.U. Spitfire fund. A competition was won by Mrs. H. Back and Miss A. Mercer. A competition for a three-egg sponge resulted: Mrs. G. Hurley 1, Mrs. L. D.avidson 2, Mrs. Jenkins 3. Hostesses were Mrs. H. Phillips and Miss Shirley Phillips. Inglewood: Mrs. A. Fabish presided at the monthly meeting. Mrs. Parker was welcomed as a guest. A subscription list was opened for the W.D.F.U. bomber plane. It was decided to give £1 to the Makogni leper fund. Mrs. Fabish thanked Mesdames Wood and Young for judging the floral competitions. A wandering shilling was won by Mrs. W. E. Smith. Winners in a competition for a bloom were Mrs. H. W. Winter 1, Mrs. R. Bennett 2, Mrs. P. Roberts 3. Hostesses were Mesdames Sutton, Adamson and Frederickson. Puniwhakau: The September meeting wr.s held in the school. Mrs. F. C. Gatton presided. A letter from Mrs. W. J. Polson was read. Members brought articles of clothing for the refugee collec-tm-i. Mrs. F. C. Gatton gave a prize for the monthly competition, which was judgecl by Mrs. Kendall, the results being: Mrs. Bert Gatton 1, Mrs. J. J. Norris 2. An amusement competition, "Kitchen articles," arranged by Mrs. C. White, was won by Mrs. F. C. Gatton. The winner of a wandering shilling was Miss tvl. Walker. Hostesses were Mrs. Bert Gatton and Miss L. Gatton. Ohura: The annual meeting was held in the rest room. The balance-sheet showed a eredit of £16. The president, Mrs. N. B. J. Dougherty, reported that the branch had no, revenue-raising activitics this year, as most of the members were concerned in local patriotic committees and it would be a hardship to ;et up a branch war effort. Dons; committee, Mesdames Rae, J. Humphrey, R. D. Esdaile, E. McKenzie; advispry members, Mesdames G. McIIardie and Julian. asking members for a donation for the fighter plane fund for Britain. After a discussion it was decided that the Ohura branch would forward £5 towards this fund. Mrs. Dougherty gave an outline of some of the good done by the rest home, to which members were again asked to contribute. A letter from the League of Prayer, England, had been received by thc president inviting members to join the league.
