WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Stratford: At the monthly meeting Mrs. Petty presided over a good attendance. One new member was welcomed. An item was given by Mrs. Kilpatrick. A wandering shilling competition was won by Mrs. Cartwright and a competition was won by Mrs. Ross. Monthly competitions resulted as follows: Shortbread, Mrs. Dempsey 1, Mrs. Petty 2, Mrs. Thomson 3; best bloom, Mrs. Craig 1, Mrs. Gray 2, Mrs. Jenkins and Mrs. Neal equal 3. Hostesses were Mesdames Collins and Meads. Patea Maori: The September meeting was held at the residence of Mrs. F. Kahu, who presided. Mrs. Tangipo gave a demonstration on making coconut ice, Mrs. Heremaia on peanut toffee and Mrs. Kahu on plain toffee. It was decided to send Christmas parcels for soldiers overseas. Arrangements weer made to hold a shop day in October for patriotic funds. A travelling shilling was won by Mrs. J. Prime. Hostesses were Mrs. J. Prime and Miss Minnie Broughton.
