PATEA PLUNKET SOCIETY

The prcsident, Mrs. R. W. Haddow. reported at a mceting of thc Patea Plunket committce that a lettcr had been sent to the Waverley branch asking for co-operation in using the Plunket car, and pointing out that if they would do so the Rangikura and Ngutuwera Maori pas could be given seryice and regular home visits could be instituted for the Rangikura and Kohi districts. Mothers from Rangikura had to go into Waverley by slow train. An instance given was that of one mother who had left Rangikura by slow train at noon to visit the Waverley Plunket rooms, and being unable to return home by train until 6 p.m. had walked eight miles home pushing her pram. The Waverley branch was asked to give the car a six months' trial. The recommcndation from the Waverley branch that a central executive be sct up to consist of three members each from Patea and Waverley and two each from the other sub-branches was approved, the executive to be called together at any time by the. Patea branch or sub branches. The Patea County Council advised that in response to the society'.? deputation, £20 had been voted towards the funds of the branch. It was decided to hold a shop day in February. Patea babies under supervision were 70, and pre-school children 62, reported Miss N. Strachan, Plunket nurse for August. At Waverley there were 43 babies, 61 pre-school children; at Waitotara 26 (9), at Kakaramea 7 (8), and at Alton 17 (7), making a total of 310 under supervision. New cases at Patea were 6, at outstations 7. Visits to Patea homes numbered 55, to Opaku 25, to Pareroa pa 6, to Waverley 14, to Waitotara 14, and to Alton-Hurieyville 23 were reported. Visits to Patea office included 101 adults, 89 babies, 13 pre-school children, and to outstation offices 115 adults, 94 babies, 30 pre-school children, a total of 442.
