Fair to Fine Weather. Fair to fine weather, with freshening northerly to westerly winds, is predicted in the official forecast. Ccmpulsory War Loan. Particulars of the compulsory war loan of which warning was given in June are to be announced this week. Totalisator lncrease. Totalisator figures for the Wellington trotting and Geraldine race meetings show an increase of over 35 per cent. Taumarunui Woman Killed. Injuries from which she died six hours later were received by a Taumarunui woman in a car smash near Auckland. £1,000,000 Wanted. Mr. J. Abel has been appointed honorary organiser of a campaign by the provincial patriotic councils to raise £1,000,000. Two Territorials Killed. Two territorials from Hopuhopu were killed near Tuakau when a motor-cycle they were riding left the road near a bridge and jumped 25 feet across a stream. Marton Spring Meeting. Outsiders won consistently at the Marton Jockey Club's spring meeting on Saturday. Gaelic Song won the main event. Saxon Tor, All Bunsby and Autosweep were other vinners. Fewer Luxuries. Fewer luxuries will be imported in the next licensing period, according to the Minister of Finance, who says it is of no help to Britain to buy goods that could be disposed of to better advantage elsewhere. Trotting at Wellington. Special Force won . the Wellington Stakes for two-year-old trotters at Hutt Fark on Saturday. Other winners were Cruiser in the Wilford Memorial, Southern Smile in the Wellington Handicap and Hatrack in the Stewards' Handicap.
