"DAD RUDD, M.P."
MAYFAIR PROGRAMME.
That the popularity of the Rudd family on the screen has not waned was proved at the Mayfair Theatre, New Plymouth, on Saturday night when the theatre was full at capacity by 7.15 p.m. A full house greeted Cinesound's latest picture "Dad Rudd, M.P." at the afternoon session as well. The picture is fully worthy of the enthusiasm shown by the general public as it is a feast of the "Dad and Dave" type of humour. There is a new departure, however, as the story takes a more serious turn when Dad makes his fighting speech in the House of Representatives for the completion of a dam vital to the needs of the smaller land holders of his electorate. In this he touches on the present war and the need for the general public to rally round on the home front while the soldiers are fighting for their country's freedom overseas. He urges that those left at home make Australia worthy of her sons' sacrifice. The story of the film briefly concerns the fight put up by Dad Rudd in an election battle against a none too scruplulous rival. Romance is supplied by Ann Rudd, played by Yvonne East, and the son of the rival candidate, played by Grant Taylor. Joe, the youngest son, also becomes involved with a member of the opposite sex. A good programme of supports includes "Oh Say Can You Ski?" in technicolour, and "These Children Are Safe," showing the evacuation of children from London.
