HATRACK IN MONEY TWICE ARDGLASS SHOWS UP WELL
Wellington, Last iNignt. Special Force. although a little slow to settle down, justified his outstanding two-year-old form by winning the Wellington Stakes verv decisively. Walter Moore was early in front from Salisbury and Shadow Maid and there was no alteration at the six furlongs post, where Special Force was going well in fourth place. At the mile, covered in 2m. 19 l-5s., Special Force ran up handy to Walter Moore and the pair drew away from Shadow Maid, while Gold Chief moved up to fourth place. The leaders came into the final lane together, but at the distance Special Force had the measure of Walter Moore and went on to win well from Shadow Maid. who made a solid effort. Gold Chief ran past Walter Moore, who tired, to bc a moderate third. The rest were well back. The Wilford Memorial was run at a crawl for a mile and a-half with Cruiser. I driven hy F. Holmes, as pacemaker. Feiry ipost made a sharp move round the field from the half mile but failed to reach Cruiser, a noted stayer, who was admirably suited by the slow pace. Accountant, hemmed in most of the way, was a moderate third. The unplaced horses had every chance but could not go on at the finish. The first mile took 2m. 30s. and the journey 4m. 41 l-5s. Franz Derby. Franz Derby extended her long list of successes at Hutt Park when she won the Nai Nai Handicap easily. She was in third place at the five furlongs post and displaced Vain Lad. who began smartly, at the home turn. Hat Rack. who broke early, finished in second place ahead of Tonee. Vain Lad broke under pressure to finish fifth. Having his second race. Neutrality won the Sharpe Handicap. but M. Stewart had to keep the Jack Potts gelding going to Gold Chief and the little-fancied Gold Flight headed him. Gold Chief, who was third in the Stakes. made a great effort, but Ardglass beat him by a short neck. Gold Bar's Easy Win. Gold Bar was never troubled to win the-Railway Handicap from end to end. He was followed throughout by Kewpie's Jewel, who was patiently handled by A. W. Broughton. Siege Gun did best of the remainder for third place, with Toceetie next. Bronze Eagle was the disappointment of the race, being slow away. Never racing truly, he was last to reach the judge in 3m. 19 2-5s. from a 3m. 34s. mark. The hot favourite, Lady Milne, was snowed in all the way in the Wellington Handicap and could finish only fourth. Southern Smile led all the way to win nicely from Ringtrue, with Mongolian in third place. Nawton Parrish was handy for a mile before fading and Parauri failed to run on.
