MR. A. FRANKLIN DEAD
OLD RESIDENT OF MANAIA The funeral of Mr. Alfred Franklin, a resident of Manaia for more than 45 years. who died on Tuesday. took place on Thursday. A service at his 'home in Main Street was conducted bv the Rev. R. Miller, who also officiated at the graveside. The late Mr. Franklin was a member of the Manaia Bowling Club from its inception and it was fitting that there should be a large muster of bowlers not only from Manaia but also representatives of clubs from other centres to join in paying their last respects to a player well known throughout the whole province. Mr. Franklin also had many other interests at Manaia, and the sympathy of a widespread community was extended to the relatives in many messages and in the large number of wreaths placed on the casket and at the graveside. Pall-bearers were Messrs. W. Budd, A. Baldwin, J. Borrie, G. Edwards, J. W. Snowdon and P. Clarke. Predeceased by Mrs. Franklin some years ago, Mr. Franklin is survived. by two daughters, Mrs. W. Kerr and Miss M. Franklin (Manaia) and three sons, Messrs. Robert Franklin (Manaia), William Franklin (Opunake) and Charles Franklin (Ngaruawahia).
