DEATH OF MR. G. R. TYLEE

The death of Mr. G. R. Tylee. which occurred somewhat suddenly at Westown on Saturday night. removes another link with the early settlement of the Dominion, his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Tylee, having arrived at Wellington by the ship Mariner on June 14. 1849. They lived' for a while at Wanganui and Wellington and then settled at Napier, where the late Mr. G. R. Tylee was born 77 years ago. being one of a family of nine. After leaving school he enter.ed a bank at Napier, but preferring the outdoor life. shortly afterwards took up farming, with which he was associated until his retirement. having taken an active part in the development of the dairying industry in its early days .in Central and North Taranaki. Fifty-five years ago Mr. Tylee settled at Kohi. Waverley. the old provincial line dividing Taranaki and Wellington passing through the farm. A few years later, with his wife, he removed to Cardiff, where he took up dairying. He was subsequently farming in the Stanley Road district, Onaero and Uruti, but in 1907 he took over a farm on the Kahui Road. Rahotu, where he lived until his retirement to Spotswood about 20 years ago. He has lived at New Plymouth since then. In his younger days he took an active interest in the development of the districts in which he lived. having been a member of the Clifton County Council and also of the Parihaka Road Board. while he had also been a director of several dairy factories. He was also interested in school committee work. He is survived by his widow, nee Miss E. Miller. Waverley, one son, Mr. W. A. Tylee (Rahotu), and four daughters, Mesdames W. Honey field ..(Inglewood) , H. Larking (Ratapiko). C. Ashley (Waikawau) and G. Bartholomew (Hastings). Two daughters predeceased him. There are 25 grandchildren. The funeral. which was private. took place at the Westown cemeters' on Monday, the Ven. Archdeacon G. H. Gavin reading the service.
