STATE RENTAL HOMES

MORE BUILDING NEEDED The urgent necessity of continuing the building of more State rental homes at New Plymouth and Waitara has been brought to the notice of the Minister of Housing, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, by Mr. F. L. Frost, M.P. "I have been informed," stated Mr. Frost in his letter to the Minister, "that no further purchase of building sites have been made in these towns and the contractors are at the stage when they have to make plans for the future. If they leave the district it will be difficult to get them back again as the gangs will have been disbanded and the routine disorganised. The housing problem is still acute here and when the present contracts are concluded there will be over 50 applicants at New Plymouth and over 20 at Waitara without houses. "Applications are coming in daily and with .the extension of Borthwick's works at Waitara there will be an urgent demand for houses. "I would like to see more land obtained at the Fitzroy and Breakwater tnds of New Plymouth and there are suitable areas availabie in both places. "It would be disastrous to halt this excellent work at this stage anc' I am sure you will give this matter your earnest attention."
