WOMEN'S DIVISION

Eltham: Mrs. Cocker presided over the monthly meeting. Members packed parcels for soldiers overseas. A Christmas cake competition was won by Mrs. Stanners, with Mrs. Nairn second and Mrs. Sulzberger third. A cake competition was won by Mrs. Kemp and a wandering shilling by Mrs. Adam. Hostesses were Mesdames Adams and Nairn. Matiere-Nihoniho: The fourth birthday of the branch was held in the Matiere hall. Many members were present. Apologies were received from sick members. -Manunui, Ongarue and Ohura sent birthday greetings. Mrs. J. Higgie, president of the branch .extended a welcome to all present. Winners of competitions were :Best hand bouquet, Mrs. L. A. Passau: best bloom, Mrs. P. McDoug'all (Otangiwai); best collection of spring flowers, Mrs. W. Kelly. The judges were Mrs. Julian, Nihoniho, and Mrs. H. Nelson, Tuhua. Mrs. Julian, Nihoniho, won the best limerick competition, Mrs. E. Williams, Nihoniho, won a telegram competition and Mrs. H. Christenson, Nihoniho, the balloon race and advertisement competition. The president called upon the secretary, Mrs. C. Whittington, to light the candles on the birthday cake and Mrs. Julian, the first president of the branch, to blow them out. Mrs. Julian congratulated the branch on attaining its fourth birthday. Mrs. Julian presented bouquets to Mrs. J. Higgie (president), Mrs. C. Whittington (secretary) and Mrs. L. A. Passau (past president). New Plymouth: Mrs. Findlay presided over the monthly meeting. Two new members were welcomed. The secretary was instructed to forward a donation to the leper fund. It was decided to hold a shop day to raise funds for the Women's Division fighting plane. Mrs. J. Gable gave a talk on flowers suitable for summer showing and was asked to undertake the arrangements for a summer show. Mrs. Wright, who judged a vase of flowers competition, gave a short talk. She gave a prize. Results of the competition were: Mrs. Findlay 1, Mrs. Moore 2, Mrs. Williams 3. Other competitions resulted: Jelly, Mrs. Niven 1, Mrs. Moore 2; marmalade, Mrs. Findlay 1, Mrs. Wilkinson 2. Mrs. Williams won a wandering shilling competition. Hostesses were Mesdames Williams and Nicolson.
