NGAERE SCHOOL WORK
At the monthly meeting of the Ngaere school committee, satisfaction was expressed at work being 'undertaken on the grounds. The main entrance had been improved by the erection of new double gates with side columns bearing the school's name and the dates of erection of both the old and new schools. The main driveway had been raised and re-metalled and a section of the front fence would soon be replaced. The levelling of the basketball field which had been undertaken by the Public Works Department was nearing completion. The headmaster reported that the relieving assistant, Miss M. Savell, was on sick leave and her place had been taken by Mrs. E. Geddes, New Plymouth. Fourteen entries had been received for the calf-rearing and root-growing competitions of the boys and girls' club and 40 pupils had entered the school s home plot competitions. A ready response had been made by the children to the appeal for scrap materials, and generous gifts of Gggs had been received for the Stratford Plunket Socicty's market day. Lettcrs of thanks are to be sent to the Education Board and the Public Works Department. Stratford. Mr. H. Clough was appointed supervisor for the club competitions.
