HURWORTH DISTRICT NEWS

A card Darty in aid of patriotic funds was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Gole, Hurworth. Prize winners were Miss E. Eva and Mr. Roper. Consolation prizes went to .Mrs. Roper r.nd Mr. B. Farmer. A com-petition was won by Mr. F. King. An evening was also held at Mr. F. Baker's home, when prizes were won by Mrs. Walsh and Mr. Berryman, and consolation prizes by Miss Jones and Mr. B. Allan. A social evening in aid of patriotic funds organised by the Hurworth Badminton Club. and held in the hail, was a success. Winners of euchre were Mrs. F. King 1, after playing off with Mrs. S. Campbell, Mr. B. Farmer 1, Mr. M. Sullivan 2. Music for dancing was played by Mr. and Mrs. Davies. Mr. Mackintosh played an extra. A competition for a black lamb given bv Mr. H. Okey was won by Miss K. Burkett. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Thompson, and a mystery Gay Gordons by Miss Magee and Mr. F. Gilbert. Mr. R. Adalm was master of ceremonies. There was a good attendance at a social evening afler the spring show, which was organised by Ihe Women s Institute in the hall. Both entertainments were in aid of the Spitfire fund. Music for dancing was played by Messrs. Baines and Reesby, an extra being played by Mrs. F. King. Euchre winners were Mrs. Sullivan and Mr. Koper. consolation Mr. and Mrs. Welsh. A Monte Carlo was won by Miss Anderson and partner. Mr. E. Pepperell was master of ceremonies. Personal. Mrs. Urbahn, senr.. Wellington, recently visited her son. Mr. H. Urbahn. Mr. W. R. Lcighton and Mr. N. R. Leigh ton were the guests of Mr. ancl Mrs. F. King. _ . Mrs. S. Lovegrove is in the New Plymouth hospital. Mr. Easthope is staying with his sister, Mrs. H. Okey. Miss B. Burkett, of the nursing staft of the Hawera hospital, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Burkett. Mr. Silby, Manaia, is the guest o. Mr. and Mrs. S. Campbell
