LEGACIES RECEIVED

S:P.C.A. IN TARANAKI Advice from the Puhlic Trustee that a legacy of £20 and the balance of the legacy left. by the late M. A. Buckley were available was received at a meeting of the Taranaki Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at New Plymouth on Tuesday. It was decided to support the Otago society in attempting to suppress the coursing of hares in enclosures. The poisonihg of dogs in and about New Plymouth was discussed and it was decided to try and ascertain where the poison was being procured. The question of bobby calves was also discussed. It was stated that many farmers in certain districts had refused to send their calves by train to the Patea works, deciding to kill them on the farm in preference. It was decided to write to the Agricultural Department and inquire the number of calves allowed to be carried in each deck of a railway truck and to request the department to endeavour to get the Railway Department to pick up trucks of bobby calves whenever the loading was complete. It was also decided to provide the inspector with a hat with the S.P.C.A. band on It.
