WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
Hurworth: Mrs. Gilbert presided and welcomed visitors and members who had been absent for some time at the monthly meeting. Presentations were made to babies Harrison, Wood and Urbahn. A competition, knitting a yard of wool with two toothpicks, organised by Miss J . Campbell, was won by Mrs. C. H. Sampson. A guessing competition arranged by Mrs. Mischefski was won by Miss J. Harrison. A travelling shilling competition was won by Mrs. K. Harrison. A letter written by Private S. Pepperell, stationed in Egypt, was read. It was decided to give 10s to the Makogai leper fund for Christmas cheer. Monthly competitions resulted: Best flower, Mrs. Pepperell 1, Miss J. Harrison 2, Mrs. Harrison 3; junior, Miss K. Burkett 1, Miss J. Campbell 2; child's apron (to be donated to the sewing stall), Miss J. Harrison 1, Mrs. J. Burkett 2. Mrs. K. Harrison 3; junior, Miss K. Burkett 1, Miss J. Campbell 2. Miss M. Farmer 3; pikelets, Mrs. R. Cole 1, Mrs. Burkett 2, Mrs. Roper 3; junior, Miss J. Campbell. Hostesses were Mrs. J. Mischefski and Misses J. Campbell and J. Schrider.
