Extenslon of District. The Hawera branch of the Crippled i Children Society on Tuesday accepted a proposal made by the Wanganui branch that its welfare officer should include in her district all cases as far north as Mokoia. V.A.D. Open Night. An open night was held by the Voluntary Aid Detachment of the Hawera branch of the Red Cross Society on Tuesday, when following the monthly meeting members of the detachment and their friends, more than 70 people in all, were addressed by Mrs. J. M. Collins about her extensive tour abroad. Patea Soldiers' Parcels. To raise funds for soldiers' parcels, the Patea Women 's Institute held a card evening on Monday. Prize winncrs were: Euchre, Miss M. Abraham and Mr. J. Whanau; progressive five hundred, Mrs. E. F. Hemingway and Mr. R. E. Moore. A coffee set competition was won by Mrs. S. Edinger, Wanganui. Mrs. J. Julian, Wellington, entertained with songs.
