MATIERE PRESENTATION

A smoke concert was held in the Matiere hall. when the friends of Mr. M. Laing, of the local post office, met to farewell him. Mr. L. A. Passau, president of the Matiere Football Club, presided. , Mr. Anderson proposed the toast to tne guest of the evening. He said that although he had known Mr. Laing for only a few months he had found him an efficient officer. The staff sincerely regretted his going and wished him every success. Mr. J. Grey, Ngaruawahia, also spoke of the esteem in which Mr. Laing was held by the friends he had made while he had been stationed at Matiere. The president, on behalf of all pres*> ent and the Matiere football club. presented Mr. Laing with a gold eversharp pencil. All present _ congratulated him on his promotion. said Mr. Passau. Mr. Laing thanked the speakers and said he would remember the happy times he had spent at Matiere. Songs were sung by Mr. W. Grey and Mr. Anderson and recitations were given by Messrs. W. Taylor, J. Margan and J. Bowman.
