PROSPECTS DISCUSSED

The principal events at the Marton Jockey Club's spring meeting on Saturday, the Marton and Railway Handicaps, have drawn good, well-balanced fields. Most of the horses engaged have raced recently and interesting contests are likely to be witnessed. Siegmund, who heads the list in the Marton Handicap, was much above himself when he raced at the Wanganui meeting at Awapuni. His racing is likely to have improved him, but he may not be ready to show his best, Meamea was another to race at Awapuni. He did not show up in his only engagement and may need further racing. Unlucky at Awapuni. Form points to a good effort from Colonel Bogey. He ran two fine races at Awapuni and appeared unlucky not to have won the Higgie Handicap on the second day. He has only to act up^ to that form to take a hand in the finish. Winsome Lu raced well enough at Trentham and New Plymouth to suggest that she will prove capable of a bold bid. She has usually raced well on the Marton course. Homily has not shown form for a considerable time, but it must be remembered that she won this race last year, beating Winsome Lu and Solaria, who dead-heated for second. Prominent in Recent Starts. After the fine race that Gaelic Song ran at Awapuni he is likely to be well supported in this race. His chances would be enhanced by a holding track. Noble Fox's win over nine furlongs in the Halcombe Memorial at New Plymouth suggested that he might run out a mile and a-quarter journey. Her racing at Awapuni would improve Cherry Boy, who is a lazy worker, while Skyway ran well enough at the same meeting to
