WAITARA COMMUNITY SING

In 'aicl of a Christmas cheer fund for the hospital, the Waitara Ex-p&tients Association held a community sing last night in the Clifton hall. Artists who assisted were Mr. Jack Goddard, Messrs. Graham and Misses Doreen Bishop, Jean Jarvis, Janet Burns (songs), Misses Pcnnington (yodelling). The singing was led by Messrs. V. C. Tate and L. Henderson. Mr. Gordon Palmer, of the Post and Telegraph Department, Christchurch, is on a short visit to Waitara. Mr. J. P. Hughson and Mrs. Hughson left Waitara on Tuesday afternoon to spend a week at Auckland

Mr. H. G. Edwards, until recently manager at Apia, Samoa, has arrived at Waitara to take over the management of the Waitara branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr. D. J. Russell, of the borough clerical staff, returned to Waitara on Monday from Chateau Tongariro. Waitara Service. There was a large congregation on Sunday evening when the brethren of the Sir Donald McLean Lodge held a Masonic service in St. John's Church at the invitation of the master of the lodge, Mr. J. W. Hamlin. The service was conductcd by the vicar, the Rev. E. G. Wilson, assisted by Bros. J. Parry, A. Chadwick and J. W. Hamlin. The preacher, the Rev; F. Hart, New Plymouth, gave an address.
