RHODES SCHOLARSHIP

VICTORIA NOMINATIONS

Wellington, Sept. 17. Victoria University College nominations for Rhodes Scholarships, decided by the Professorial Board to-day, are: Norman Andrew Morrison, at present a pilotofficer engaged in instructional duties at Wigram, and Ronald John Corkill, a member of the staff of the Correspondence School, Wellington. Mr. Morrison, aged 24,' is an LL.B. and is sitting for his LLM. this year, while Mr. Corkill, aged 24. is a B.A. and has also his Diploma of Education. He is sitting in honours in English this year. Mr. Corkill is an old boy of the New Plymouth Boys' High School, being a pupil there from 1930 to 1935. He took a prominent part in school activities. He was a member of the 1st Rugby fifteen, a school prefect and an outstanding rifle shot. He won a University National Bursary in 1935. In the same year he also won the Bendall Memorial Essay. Whether New Zealand scholars will go to Oxford nex.t year is still uncertain, but the Rhodes trustees have authorised the selection of the 1941 scholars, but have s-eserved the right not to take them to Oxford, if circumstances do not warrant. i
