WASTE COLLECTION TO-DAY.

STRATFORD COUNTY AREA DRIVE. To-day, the Stratford and district committee operating under the auspices ^ of the National Council for the Utilisation of Waste, will fire the first shot in its campaign to marshal the district s deposits of discarded non-ferrous metal articles, when a thorough coverage is made of the Stratford County district. Lorries lent by supporters of the scheme will call at all district dairy factories and schools to collect deposits of waste materials left there by adjacent district residents. Any article of copper, brass, aluminium, lead, or pure tin, such as is used in the manufacture of tooth paste tubes, is urgently required. The public is asked to co-operate in the effort and bring to the central district depots any articles of the mentioned materials. Adequate arrangements have been made for collection of contributions and the sorting and disposal later — but the whole success of the country effort depends upon the country residents themselves. From indications received from the country areas at Stratford yesterday it was expected by the committee that the proceeds of the drive will be great enough to create a collection at the depot that will present serious competition for the town-dwellers to outdo when their collection is made.
