OUGHT TO CONTINUE
TENNIS COMPETITIONS "That a strong recommendation be sent from this club to the inter-club committee controlling club tennis competitions, urging that the competitions be continued as . usual this season, particularly in the town," was a resolution passed at the annual meeting of the Pukekura Park Tennis Club, New Plymouth. "Of late," said Mr. W. F. Shrimpton, "a great deal of talk has been circulating in Ihe town regarding inter-club tennis competitions, and it has been freely said that there are to be no such competitions this season. Petrol restrictions would impose hardships on cerfain country clubs, but he saw no reason why clubs in the town should be affccted. Because • there was a war on there was no need for the club to go into retirement. Petrol would un- | doubtedly have an effect in the country, but not anywhere near the same extent in the town. It only needed a club to take a stand on the matter to make other clubs realise the fact that the competitions oould be continued.
