WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Opunake: Mrs. W. A. Laing presided at the September meeting. It was decided that the branch send ls per member out of funds to headquarters for patriotic purposes. Arrangements were made to assemble and forward Christmas parcels for soldiers. A presentation was made to the Rev. J. H. Bailey as an appreciation of his interest in the work of the institute. The resignation of the president, Mrs. Laing, owing to her departure from Opunake was received. Appreciation of her work was- recoraed. A travelling shilling was won by Mrs. K. McRae. Competitions resulted: Plain biscuits, Mrs. Bbyd 1, Mrs. Sisley 2, Mrs. Jones 3; matchbox, Miss Yep 1, Mrs. Pollock 2, Mrs. Sisley 3; blackboard game, Mrs. M. Richards. Hostesses were Mesdames Coupe, McCullum and Pollock.
