WOMEN'S DIVISION

Waiongona: Mrs. A. L. Wright presided at the' September meeting. A donation of 10s was made to the Makogai leper fund. It was decided to hold a social and dance for donations to soldiers' parcels and the W.D.F.U. aircraft fund. Members decided to make up three parcels for Waiongona soldiers. A parcel of clothing was received from members for the Lady Galway guild. Some members promised to assist with the mending of articles received by the Inglewood branch of the guild. Results of competitions were: Senior, scones, Mrs. Evans; junior, bran biscuits, Miss Peggy Wright; flower competition, Mrs. Bishop; travelling sixpence, Mrs. Clough. Hostesses were Mesdames Hine and Gill. Otakeho: Mrs. Walker presided at the monthly meeting, when there was a good attendance. Correspondence in connection with the Makogai Leper Fund was read, and it was decided to forward the usual donation of £1. A discussion took place on the funds necessary to be subscribed by the branches for the W.D.F.U. Spitfire, and Otakeho members made a donation of £10. The secretary presented a balance-sheet in connection with the recent dance, which was most satisfactory. All who assisted were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The wandering shilling competition was won by Mrs. E. T. Burke. During the afternoon Christmas parcels for Otakeho men on active service were packed, 17 being forwarded. JL Pukengahu: Mrs. Harris presided at the monthly meeting. Condolence was extended to two residents of the district who had recently suffered bereavements. It was decided to send donations to the W.D.F.U. bomber fund and Makogai leper fund. Mesdames Harris and Rowe undertook to pack parcels for men from the district serving overseas. Members did sewing during the month in conjunction with the Lady Galway guild, and clothing was forwarded to the central depot. A competition was won by Miss Haseltine. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Best and Coplestone. Korito. A card afternoon was held recently in aid of the Spitfire fund. Winners of progressive euchre were Mrs. W. Ashman 1, Mrs. A. Orchard 2. Mesdames B. Herbert and R. Baker were in charge of cards. A cake made and decorated by a member was presented for competition in aid of the funds. The president, Mrs. H. Peters, cn behalf of the branch, presented Mrs. Orchard, in memory of her association with the branch, with a small gift. Opunake: Mrs. W. A. Sheat was in the chair. Motions of sympathy with Mrs. O'Brien in sickness, and Mrs. . J. D. Conaglen in a bereavement, were passed. A welcome was given to Mrs. Giles, Canterbury. Mrs. Chambers reported that a relief case had been assisted with children's clothing. Mrs. Tosland reported on having attended a special emergency meeting of the South Taranaki executive at Hawera. The sum of £14 7s was collected for the W.D.F.U. Spitfire fund. It was decided to make up this sum from a special fund for patriotic activities by the branch to the sum of £20. It was agreed that tea room profits for the sick and wounded fund be diverted and used for patriotic purposes i as required. One guinea was voted to the leper appeal. Members were asked to bring gifts as formerly to be sent for the Christmas appeal to Makogai. Mrs. Harvey gave washed and prepared fiour bags to be made into pillow cases for the children's health camp. Competitions for the month' resulted: Best daffodil, Mrs. J. S. Hickey 1, Mrs. T. N. Watl 2, Mrs. A. Petty 3; best bloom, Mrs. A. Petty 1, Mrs. A. Campbell 2, Mrs. D. Holmes and Miss Hurst equal 3. Mrs. Chambers thanked members who had given eggs to be sent to the Church of England orphanages. Mrs. R. J. Morris gave a demonstration on wreath making.

Ahititi-Okau-Tongaporutu: Mrs. F. Calvert presided at the monthly meeting. Visitors were present from Waitara and Mahoenui. A wandering shilling competition was won by Mrs. T. Hayward. There was a silver collection for the Spitfire fund. An appeal for help was received from the leper station. The first prize for a best butterless sponge was won by Mrs. E. D. O'Sullivan, Mrs. F. Q'Halloran being second and Mrs. A. Petersen third. The judges were Mesdames W. A. and W. S. Burton and Mrs. Taubman. Hostesses were Mesdames H. Collins, W. S. Burton and F. O'Halloran. Toko: Mrs. A. Lees presided. Two new members, Mesdames McNab and Alex Sangster, were welcomed. It was decided to have a euchre party and dance to raise money for the W.D.F.U. Spitfire fund. A collection of money or goods is to be made for the Makogai leper appeal at next month's meeting. There were no sick members. A wandering shilling was won by Mrs. E. 1 Milne. The Rev.
