Changeable and showery weather, with low temperatures and fresh' to strong south winds, is predicted in the official forecast. Army Inspector-General. Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, K.C.B., K.C.M.G., has been appointed to the post of Inspector-General of the New Zealand Forces. Mission Worker Killed. Cabled advice of the death of a former member of the Auckland Methodist central mission in a London air raid has been received at Auckland. Clipper's Good Passage. An interesting crossing was experienced by passengers in the Pan Americ:.a Airways Clipper, which arrived at Auckland yesterday from Noumea. Winners at Avondale. Royevrus and Beau Leon x were the principal winners at the concluding day of the Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting yesterday, Erndale, Small Boy and Milanion also being successful. Calling Up Date Undecided. Though reports are current that men of the 4th reinforcements are to be called up for camp at the beginning of next month, no announcement could be made by the military authorities yesterday. Increased Passenger Fares? A decision to revise tram and bus fares with a view, subject to the approval of the Price Tribunal, to an increase to offset increased expenses resulting from the recent wage increase, was made by the Wellington City Council.
