KAPUNI DISTRICT NEWS
A meeting of the Kapuni Badminton Club was held recently, Mr. I. Vt Buchanan presiding. It was decided to hold a women's singles handicap tournament and a men's singles handicap tournament. Mr. A. Burke gave a cup for the ladies' tournament and Mr. BuchanrV"! gave a cup for the men's handicap singles. Monte Carlo prizes for a dance were given by Miss E. Rowe and Mr. T. Woodhead. The doubles handicap tournament saw some keen contests. There was marked improvement in the standard of play since the beginning of the season, when the club was started. . The club's trophies were won by Mr. G. Woodhead and Mr. W. Walsh. Results of the tournament were: — First round: E. Luscombe and A. Burke (2) beat J. Gamlin and Miss.M. Steiner (3) 15-6, F. Arnold and Miss E. Harrison (5) beat J. Bulman and Miss E. Rowe (3) 15-3, W. Walsh and G. Woodhead (1) beat R. Harrison and O. Steiner (5) 15-11, Mrs. D. Mitchell and
Miss 1. Cave (6) beat R. Carmichael and Miss Jean Garmonsway (5) 15-13, T. Woodhead and P. Cameron (2) beat R. Buckthought and Mrs. James (3) 15-5, M. Harrison and J. Kissick (2) beat C. Ham and Miss Shirley Harrison (4) 15-13, Mrs. Mowatt and Miss Agnes Steiner (4) beat R. Gamlin and L. Cameron (6) 15-7. Second round: E. Luscombe and , A. Burke f2) beat F. Arnold and Miss Elsie Harrison (5) 15-12, G. Woodhead and W. Walsh (1) beat Mrs. D. Mitchell and Miss Ida Cave (6) 15-7, M. Harrison and J. Kissick (2) beat T. Woodhead and P. Cameron (2) 15-12, Mrs. W. Mowatt and Miss Agnes Steiner a bye. Third round: E. Luscombe and A. Burke (2) beat Mrs. W. Mowatt and Miss Agnes Steiner (4) 15-9, G. Woodhead and W. Walsh (1) beat M. Harrison and J. Kissick (2) 15-3. Final: G. Woodhead and W. Walsh beat E. Luscombe and A. Burke 15-7. The last of the hall committee's euchre tournaments for the season was held on Tuesday night when eight tables were engaged. The prize-winners were Mrs. T. Woodhead and Mr. A. Harrison. Pcrsonal. Mr. L. G. Lowry, M.P., and Mrs. Lowry, Otaki, are the guests of their daughter, Mrs. I. V. Buchanan. Manaia Road.
