WELLINGTON INCREASE RESULT OF HIGHER WAGES
Wellington, Last Night. By 10 votes to six the Wellington City Council at an adjourned meeting this afternoon adopted a report from the tramway committee advocating proposals to increase tramfares on Sundays and holidays, to reduce the number on one-section concession tickets from eight to seven and to revise the system of bus fares. Operating Expenses Increase. An increase in operating expenses as the result of the recent 5 per cent. rise in wages was estimated in the report at £16,900 a year, which, unless steps were taken to meet the position, would result in a loss for the year of £18,900. The proposed new charges are to be submitted to the Brice Tribunal for approval.
