CRICKET CAPTAIN

V. PARKINSON CALLED UP A well-known figure in North Taranaki sporting circles, Mr. V. Parkinson, New Plymouth, has been called up for service with the divisional signals and will enter camp with the 4th. reinforcements. Mr. Parkinson served in the Great War as a wireless operator in the Royal Navy. A good all-round cricketer, Mr. Parkinson has for many years captained the Western Park senior team and has represented both North Taranaki and Taranaki. He is a vigorous bat, a good slip fielder and a skilful bowler. He has also been connected with the administrative side of the sport, being a member of the management committee. He has been responsible for fostering cricket in the schools. His wireless experience has made Mr. Parkinson a valuable member of the North Taranaki Radio Society. At station 2YB, New Plymouth, he is one of the • announcers and is also cricket commentator.
