WAVERLEY

Miss Fisher, Gore, who has been the guest of Mrs. R. E. McGregor, returned home on Friday. Mrs. R. Jamieson, Christchurch, is a guest of Mrs. E. C. Dallison. Mrs. J. Robertson, who has been a guest of Mrs! Buttars for several days, has returned to Papakura. Mr. and Mrs. R. Old, Wanganui, are visiting Waverley for a few days as guests of Mrs. R. S. Aiken. Nurse O'Reilly, of the Palmerston North hospital, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. C. O'Reilly, Ngutuwera.

Women's Social Club Meets. There was an excellent attendance of members and friends at the Sunday school on Friday afternoon for the fourth birthday of the St. Stephen's Women's Social Club. The Rev. P. A. Stanley , opened the afternoon. Mrs. Barron, the president, welcomed tliose present and conveyed good wishes from Mrs. P. A. Stanley, who is in the Patea hospital. Mrs. Barrow read a letter from Trentham thanking the club for a gift. Mr. Stanley said that in four years much good work had been accomplished by the club. The club would regret the departure of Mrs. F. ESll, who is leaving the district. Mrs. Ell had done good work for the church. The Waverley afternoon play reading circle then presented a play, "All Night Service," the readers being Mesdames A. Morrison, P. V. Graves, H. Strauchon, F. Sheppard, A. Elmslie, J. P. Stewart and Miss E. McArthur. Miss Lola Bosher contributed two vocal solos. Misses Claire Newland, Joy Tallott, Betsy Wilson, Joyce Sheppard, Elspeth McAr.thur and Betty Elmslie displayed aprons brought by the members. Mrs. J. Brown was the winner of this competition and Mrs. Boyer was the winner of a sack article competition. Mrs. E. C. Dallison and Miss Symes judged the various aprons and articles. The winner of eggs was Mrs. Mortimer. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Bates and Miss Hopkinson. A birthday cake was cut, the four candles being blown out by Mrs. Bates snr.
