WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Kakaramea: The monthly meeting was well attended. Mrs. D. Hunt presided and welcomed the following visitors: Mrs. Gordon, president of Hunterville institute, Mrs. A. Carey, Mrs. Ewing and Miss Anthony, New Plymouth. A talk on Ireland was given by Mrs. P. Dwyer and Mrs. H. Watt. Mrs. A. Carey, president of the South Taranaki federation, gave a talk on the Dominlon council

meeting at Wellington. Mrs. P. Dwyer and Miss D. Cate sang. Competitions resul'.ed: Pickled onions, Mrs. Tidswell 1, Mrs. Hurley 2, Mrs. Dyer 3; boy's pants, Mrs. Thomson 1, Mrs. Northcote 2; best bloom, Mrs. Anthony 1, Mrs. Potter 2, Miss Burkhart 3. Ngaere: Mrs. Kofoed presided at the monthly meeting. Mesdames Bonner and Tecofsky wero elected to take charge of the egg production campaign. Mesdames Powell and R. Walker are in charge of the sewing circle for refugees. Mrs. Carter, Eltham, gave a talk on Australia. A competition for six blooms of polyanthus resulted: Mrs. McPhail 1, Mrs. W. Arthur 2. Parcels for soldiers were packed by members, Mesdames Kofoecl and Brett giving biscuits and shortbread. During the afternoon the president made a presentation of shoulder sprays to Mesdames Powell and R. Walker. Hostesses were Mesdames H. C. Tnylor and P. Dickson. Tawhiti: Miss Bailantine presided at the monthly meeting. Sympathy was expressed with members who were ill. The resignation of Miss N. Parkcr, who has left the district, was received with regret. Miss Bailantine and Mrs. Appleyard are the delegates to attend the halfyearly council meeting and Mrs. A. Tidswell was nominalcd for the Dominion council. Mrs. Collins gave a talk on' a tour of Denmark, Swcden and England in the first months of the war. A bring and buy table under the supervision of Mrs. Holloway did brisk business. A competition for an iced cake was won by Mr. Joyce. The best bloom competition, judged by Mrs. Collins, resulted: Miss M. Wyatt 1, Mrs. Appleyard 2, Mrs. Christensc-n 3. Mrs. Douglas judged a competition for gems and placed Miss Er.rten 1, Mrs. Christensen 2, Mrs. E. Barkla 3. Hostesses were Mesdames ' Texandgp, L. Barkla and Miss Andreoli.
