WAITARA SHOW
successful event The Waitara Methodist Church's spring flower show was brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday night, the attendance during the afternoon and evening being good. Mr. S. W. Hills presented the trophies, cups, shield's etc. On behalf of the committee he thanked the exhibitors, workers, judges, stewards and all others who had helped in any way in making the show such a success. Special thanks were due to Mr. F. R. Silby and Miss Crow, who carried out the secretarial duties. The Clifton Hall presented an attractive picture to the many who patronised the show, carefully arranged bulbs and cut fiowers providing a pleasing centrepiece. Stalls, which iined the hall and bore a wide variety of useful goods, did brisk business. Great interest was taken m a fine display, for exhibition only. of copper-work, fancy- work and basketware, which was staged "by the Waitara Women's Institute. The show was officially opened by the Mayor, Mr. J. P. Hughson. He thought the committee did the right thing in deciding to hold the show. There was serious trouble in the world but what was more necessary than the spreading of the Gospel and the holding of the show was for that purpose. He complimented all on the fine show of fiowers exhibited. He complimented Mr. L. Lewis, Eltham, winner of the championship with a fine specimen. He paid a tribute to the guild which had worked hard in preparing articles for disposal, and to the women's institute on the fine exhibit of useful articles. The Rev.
