APPROVAL OF BILL

waitara harbour board The monthly meeting of the Waitara Harbour Board was held on Thursday night. The chairman, Mr. W. R. Johns, reported on the recent visit of the Hon. W. E. Parry to Waitara in connection with the proposed amalgamation scheme, but after a lengthy conference no finality was arrived at, the Taranaki county and Clifton county representatives objecting to various proposals put forward by the Minister, who made every endeavour to bring about an amicable agreement. The proposed Bill in connection with the amalgamation proposals was then read and the following resolution was unnnimously carried: "That the board approve of the proposed Amalgamation Bill and that the action of the sub-committ.ee in requesting the Waitara Borough Council to promote and to take all steps necessarv in connection with same be confirmed." The board's solicitor forwarded for execution a lease to E. E. Blake and a transfer of lease from R. J. Rothery to I.lac's filling station. Mr. L. Lethbridge made application for a reduction of rent paid for sections in Parris Street. It was decided to reduce them by £1 6s a year. The Railway Department wrote re the removal of rails from the wharf. The board consented to portion of the rails on the wharf being removed providing that the spaces were replaced with timber. It was decided that the Marine Department be notified that as there was no shipping at Waitara that the board was desirous that the port should be closed as a shipping port. The secretary reported that Mr. Troy wished to terminate his annual tenancy of part of the river bank near the police station and Mr. J. Barras made application for a further tenancy of the sectior known as the shipping paddock. Mr Troy's application was granted providing six months' rates wero paid. Mr. Barras request was held over in the meantime The board decided to forego interesl on Government inscribed stock for i further six months.
