STREAM POLLUTION
effect of extra whey The possibility of the increased production of cheese leading to the pollution of streams by whey was mentioned by Mr. F. Parsons, the chairman at a meeting of the Taranaki Dairy Factory Drainage Committee at Stratford on Friday. Tliough he admitted the probability of a large proportion of the extra whey being utilised for the increased pig production he pointed out that the temptation remained for factories with a surplus to allow it to run away into streams. It was decided that the secretary, Mr. P. O. Veale, should write to all the Taranaki Acclimatisation Societies asking that cases of stream pollution by factories be reported to the committee for investigation. It was pointed out that this was the only course left open to the committee, because the petrol restricions made it impossible for the committee to travel around inspecting factories.
