Unsettled Weather. Unsettled weather is predicted in the official forecast. Strong southerly winds are likely. Circular Saw Accident. Two fingers of his right hand were lost by Mr. K. Thomson, New Flymouth, as a result of an accident with a circular saw. South Auckland Wins League. South Auckland Rugby League representatives beat Taranaki by 17 points to 13 at New Plymouth. In the reserve grade South Auckland won 32—2. Manganui Gorge Tragedy. Apparently struck by a piece of falling rock in the Manganui gorge, a young Stratford man received injuries from which he died in hospital shortly afterwards. Win for Miss O'Sullivan. Miss O'Sullivan won the Central Taranaki women's golf championship in the tournament at Eltham. Miss Hale and Mrs. Linn won the principal handicap events. For the Spitfire Fund. Bowlers at a one-day tournament held by the West End club contributed' £18 to the Taranaki Spitfire fund. A football day at Eltham raised another £15 for the same purpose. Old Rivals Meet. Tukapa retained the Dan O'Brien shield. and the club's junior team held the Carbine shield in the annual matches against Star. Both games were worthy of the occasion. Cyclists' Sportsmanship. The sportsmanship of fellow riders who waited for him after he had had a fall was largely responsible for S. McKain winning the third race in the New Plymouth Cycle and Athletic League's final road series on Saturday.
