"TRUST MISPLACED"

GOVERNMENT ATTACKED A resolution protesting against recent actions of the Government was carried at a largely attended meeting of the Napier branch of the Enginedrivers, Firenen and Cleaners' Association, according to an official statement. The resolution . .•eads: — "That the Napier members of the Enginedrivers, Firemen and Cleaners' Asjoclation make a most emphatic protest to the Government against the recent .mposition of additional taxation on the jvages of members of this association .vhich is now equivalent to a cut of 20 per cent.. made up as follows: Saies tax 10 per cent.. social security tax 5 per ;ent., and national security 5 per cent., with the additional deduction of 5 per •ent. for the superannuation fund. "It is becoming clearlv evident that the trust placed in the Labour Government nas been misplaced, judged by the heavy and inequitable burden placed on the shoulders of those whom the Government was pledged to protect from suffertng a lowered standard of living. "We also consider that the Prime Minister has either been badly misinformed or is evading the issue when he publicly •states that the increasing series of resolutions being passed by railwaymen and ot'ner bodics arc not representative of the mass of workers."
