WORKING FOR SOLDIERS

The Waverley branch of the W.D.F.U. and Citizens' Working Circle have completed their Irst six months of work for the New Zealand troops. There are 100 people on the working list. Besides three cases of refugee clothing which have been packed there have been 600 new articles made. The garments are mostly knitted and include five pullovers for the navy. The articles have been sent to the Wanganui patriotic society, air force, New Zealand camps, Navy League, Lady Galway committee and the local Red Cross. Members also dealt with the clothes which were sent in for the post office drive two months ago. There were over 1000 altogether. Besides this a parcel is sent to each Waverley soldier overseas every month. To date 36 of these parcels have been posted and 19 others sent through the patriotic provincial council for Christmas. Appreciation pf the action of the Legion of Frontiersmen \yho • haye-. lqnt^.their room for the duration of the- war Was expressed at the last meeting of the circle.
