WAVERLEY SEWING CIRCLE

The first six months of the activity of the Waverley evening sewing circle were reviewed at a meeting recently. A total of ,191 khitted garments had been made, it was reported, comprising balaclavas, socks, mittens, gloves, scarves, body belts, luiee caps and bed socks. Of these 84 garments had been sent to the Lady Galway guild, 24 to the Red Cross Society and 22 to soldiers overseas. In addition 51 face cloths, 22 hot water bag covers, five children's knitted singlets for refugees and cut and rolled bandages had been made for the Red Cross Society. For the Wanganui zone committee eight scarves, 18 pairs of mittens were knitted, 30 paybook covers made and 50 hussifs made and filled. Assistance with gift parcels, including seven Christmas parcels, had also been given. Two lots of parcels had been sent to Waverley men in Egypt, and at present Christmas parcels for these men were being prepared. Over £40 had been handled during the six months, £14 being received as donations from the R.S.A., Druids and friends.
