MAYFAIR THEATRE TO-DAY.
"THE DOCTOR TAKES A WIFE." "The Doctor Takes a Wife," which will commence to-day at 2 and 8 p.m. at the Mayfair Theatre, with Loretta Young and Ray Milland starred, is the hilarious, happy account of a girl who writes books in praise of spinsterhood and a doctor who believes all women are . . . well, not poison perhaps, but fairly close to it. To continue their careers, this perfectly matched pair of haters are f orced by circumstances beyond their co'ntrol into pretending that they are married. They bill and coo in public, they battle and clash in private. This Columbia comedy follows in the triumphant wake of sucn recent successes as "Too Many Husbands," "His Girl Friday" and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," and is a worthy addition to Columbia's collection of redoubtable films like "The Awful Truth," "It Happened One Night," "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" and "You Gan't Take it With You." Supporting the stars in this fun-packed narrative of a young doctor and a young author who pretend to be married because their careers depend upon it, are such well known Hollywood personalities as Reginald Gardiner (the British comedian), Gail Patrick, Edmund Gwenn and Georges Metaxa. An outstanding supporting programme includes "Rough House Fiesta," wrestling sports thrill, traveltalk in colour, "Federal Bureau of Investigation" crime detection, coloured cartoon and Cinesound News.
