KAPONGA SCHOOL WORK

Advice of a grant by the Education Department of £50 towards the cost of the proposed swimming pool was received by the Kaponga school committee at its last meeting. Correspondence was also received from the architect of the Taranaki Education Board with reference to the proposal. It was decided to approach the convent schol authorities with a view to obtaining their co-operation as the pool would be made available for the use of both schools. The grounds committee reported that the hedges had been cut and drains cleaned out. Messrs. Brewer. Elmes and Dunlop were appointed Kaponga repiesentatives on the dental clinic committee and Messrs. Gordge and Taylforth were appointed supervisors for the bo'ys and girls' club competitions. The head teacher, Mr. A. T. Honore, reported that the attendance at the commencement of the third term was 107. Five children who were sick had not yet returned to school. Three new children had been admitted, making the roll 116. The average attendance for the month was 103 on an average roll of 112. . The school savinss bank account had increased to £51 4s 2d. Miss B. Innes, the dental nurse, had returned to Kaponga for the present term. The school had been inspected by Messrs. Mackay and Robertson. Another 50 books had come to hand from the school . library service at Eltham.
