HOME GUARD MOVE
OPUNAKE ORGANISATION Following a conference between the Opunake Borough Council and representatives of interested organisations this week, it was decided that the preliminary organisation of the Home Guard movement in Opunake should be undertaken by an executive, but the functions of that body would not relate to the activities of the Guard unit once it was established. A complete outline of the scheme was made by the Mayor, Mr. A. J. Brennan, and various aspects were discussed by the delegates from the Returned Soldiers' Association, the St. John Ambulance Division and the United Front Committee. The executive will comprise two representatives from the council, the R.S.A. and the St. John Ambulance and one from the United Front Committee. It was decided that the appointment of officers of the unit should be made by those whose enlistnients were received, and the immediate purpose of the executive will be to develop active interest in the scheme and to receive enlistments.
