SPRING CUT BLOOMS

SHOW AT OPUNAKE QUALITY IMPROYEMENT Favourable growing conditions produced a grand shovv of blooms at the annual spring flower show and industrial exhibition held at- Opunake on Wednesday under the auspices of the Methodist Church. Increases in entries were reported in practically every section, and in the floral exhibits the standard of blooms was exceptionally high. The show was well patronised by the public, and attendances at day and evening sessions were up to expectations. The show was opened by the Mayor of Opunake, Mr. A. j. Brennan, who complimented the exhibitors on the iine showing of flowers. The exhibition, he declared, was convincing proof that with patience and perseverance gardeners of the district could produce flowers, fruit and vegetables equal in standard to any in the country. The tlianks of the organisers to all connected with the success of the effort were conveyed by the Rev. J. H. Bailey. Many improvements in the floral exhibits were noted by Mr. Lincoln Lewis, who judged the narcissi and cut flowers section. Staging in particular had been improved, and Mr. Lewis also commented on the fine display of heaths among the flowering shrubs.

Mr. C. H. Fischer exhibited the pure white leedsii "Assini" which gained the show. championship, and, in the novice section, the champion bloom was "Lord Roberts," a yellow trumpet shown by Mrs. T.
