Tanker Blown Up. The destruction of an oil tanker by a U-boat is graphically described by Sergeant D. P. Trim in a letter to his parents at Hawera. Fine Spirit Shown. An excellent spirit is being displayed in the work of the members of the New Plymoutb company of the National Military Reserve, class II. Principle Opposed. Opposition to the principle of the 5 per cent. increase in wages was expressed at a meeting of the Opunake Electric Power Board. Reissue of Badges. Badges of the New Zealand Rifle Brlgade, the "Dinks," are being issued to North Island members of the National Military Reserve, class II. Successful Appeal. The street day and house-to-house collection of the St. John's Ambulance Association at New Plymouth yesterday was the most successful in the association's history. Ever Rising Costs. Alarm at the ever rising costs of production was expressed by the North Taranaki executive of the Farmers' Union, which carried a remit asking that the price of produce be increased this year. Mokau Rabbit Gate. Notification that the Minister of Agriculture was unable to accede to the request that the rabbit gate on the Mokau River bridge be removed has been received by the North Taranaki executive of the Farmers' Union. Cattle Prices Buoyant. Prices were buoyant in dairy cattle sections at Taranaki stock saies during the past week, the demand still exceeding the supply, so that quotations for the quality sorts were high and even inferior grades made good saies.
