HANDWORK CONTEST
NEW PLYMOUTH AWARDS Several children under the honorary instruction of Mr. T. A. Purcell, New Plymouth, gained awards for handwork in a competition sponsored by the Wanganui Crippled Children's Society. The competition was open to all crippled children through any branch of the society in the Dominion, and etitries were received from all parts of /New Zealand. The judges were Mrs. W. S. Rennie, Miss S. C. Ashmore and Miss M. R. Wallace. The judges stated that the work submitted was of an amazingly high standard without taking into con-' sideration the disabilities under which the children work. The successful New Plymouth candidates were:— Hand-knitted doll's frock: Julia Karana 1. Hand-embroidered d'oyley: Daisy Patu 2. Hand-knitted cardigan: Marjorie Kira 3. . „ Sm'ocking (open class): Daisy Patu 2 and 3. Knitting (open class): Julie Karana 3. Daisy mats: Marjorie Kira 1.
