Road Beautification. Trees are being planted on the side of the State highway at Waipuku and near' the Ngaere overhead bridge at the present time in furtherance of the Automobile Association (South Taranaki) scheme that- waste areas and roadsides should be beautified. Trees are only planted in places where they will not afliect visibility for motoring. Mountain Club Social. On Wednesday night the Stratford Mountain Club held a successful social in its club room in Miranda Street. During the evening Swiss and New Zealand mountaineering and ski-ing films were screened by Mr. C. Edson. Following the screening, the floor was cleared for dancing and games. Dance music was played by Mr. A. Vinsen. The club room was decorated for the occasion by the women's committee. Memhership Increasing. Despite the loss of members through enlistments, the memhership of the Stratford Mountain Club is increasing. Besides being shown in mountain activities, this fact is reflected in the increased attendances at club socials held in the club-room, a comparatively recent innovation which is justifying the club s enterprise in instituting it. To Play on Mountain. The site of very few band recitals. Mount Egmont will probably be the venue for the Stratford Citizens' Band s next recital. The band intends making a trip to the Manganui hut, where a programme of music will be played on the same day as the Stratford Mountain Club's senior championships are .run. New Board Meets. The first meeting of its term following the annual election, was held by the Stratford Technical High School Board last night. Mr. J. McAllister was reelected chairman. Following the meeting new members of the board inspected the school under the guidance of the headmaster, Mr. A. H. R. Amess. Visitors' Day. The suggestion that the Stratford Technical High School be available for the inspection of the trade classes, such as engineering, by employers was made to a meeting of the school board last night by the principal, Mr. A. H. R. Amess. He suggested that the school be thrown open on some occasion in the future for a visitors' day. Such an event had been featured some years ago with success. The board decided that employers should be notified on a day suitable for an inspection of the trade classes.
