CAREERS COMMENCED

SCHOLARS AT STRATFORD Sixty-seven pupils, 44 boys and 23 girls, have left the Stratford Technical High School since the beginning of the year to enter upon trade or professional careers. Fourteen of the girls have gone into offices, four have gone home, two into shops and three to other schools. Of the boys nine entered Government departments, 13 went to farms, seven to shops and five to trades such as garages and engineering and four to other schools. Thus three girls and four boys, seven of the 67, are continuing their education. The school roll stands at 328. In 1938 the number was 334 at the same time of the year and in 1939 336, but in comparing to-day's figures with those of the previous two years it must be remembered that in 1939 the school started with 20 more pupils than it has ever started with. This record enrolment was attributed to the starting of bus services in that year. _ ■ Commenting on the figures the principal, Mr. A. H. R. Amess, said that this year the total of departures did not greatly differ from those of the previous two years. A few more boys than usual at this time of the year had left but the increase was not extraordinary.
